The number of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike has risen to 11

The Palestinian Prisoners' Club stated today, Wednesday, that with the announcement of the Palestinian detainee Maher Al-Akhras declaring an open hunger strike in protest of his arrest early on Wednesday, the number of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike has risen to 11.

The Prisoners' Club explained that Palestinian detainee Maher Al-Akhras (52 years old) from Silat al-Dhahr town near Jenin was arrested today at dawn. He is a former prisoner who has spent around 4 years in Israeli occupation prisons, with the last time being in 2020. During his last detention, he embarked on an open hunger strike to protest his administrative detention, which lasted for 103 days. He is married and a father of six children.

The Prisoners' Club also pointed out that ten other Palestinian prisoners are continuing their open hunger strikes. These include eight administrative detainees: Sultan Khalouf, and Kaid al-Fasfous, who has been on hunger strike for 21 days, in addition to Palestinian detainee Osama Daqrouq, who has been on hunger strike for 17 days. Mohammed Taysir Zakarna, Anas Ahmed Kamil, Abdul Rahman Iyad Baraqah, and Zahdi Talal Obaido have been on strike for 14 days. Palestinian administrative detainee Saif al-Din Diyab al-Amareen (22 years old) from Beit Ummar in Hebron has joined the strike for the last four days.

Furthermore, Palestinian detainee Zahir Hammad (49 years old) from the town of Silwad near Ramallah has been on a hunger strike for the past four days. He is demanding to be allowed to visit his son, Palestinian detainee Mohammed, in Ofer Prison. Additionally, Hatem al-Qawasameh (42 years old) from Hebron has been on hunger strike for the 11th consecutive day, demanding to be transferred to be with his brother Hazem al-Qawasameh, who is detained in Raymond Prison.

The Prisoners' Club provided details about some of the detainees on hunger strike:

- Palestinian detainee Kaid al-Fasfous (34 years old) from Dura city, has been on hunger strike for 20 days. He has been detained since May 2, 2023, and spent around 7 years in Israeli occupation prisons.
- Palestinian detainee Sultan Khalouf (42 years old) from Birqin town near Jenin has been on hunger strike for 20 days. He was detained on August 3, 2023, and received a four-month administrative detention order.
- Palestinian detainee Osama Daqrouq (21 years old) from Salfit has been on hunger strike for 16 days. He was detained on January 13, 2023, and received two administrative detention orders.
- Palestinian detainee Mohammed Taysir Zakarna (22 years old) from Qabatiya town in Jenin has been on hunger strike for 13 days. He was detained on May 10, 2023.
- Palestinian detainee Anas Ahmed Kamil (29 years old) from Qabatiya has been on hunger strike for 13 days. He was detained on May 10, 2023, and has previously spent around 3 years in Israeli occupation prisons.
- Palestinian detainee Abdul Rahman Iyad Baraqah (24 years old) from Aqbat Jaber camp in Jericho has been on hunger strike for 13 days. He was detained on April 30, 2023.
- Palestinian detainee Zahdi Talal Obaido (23 years old) from Hebron has been on hunger strike for 13 days. He was detained on March 15, 2023.
- Palestinian administrative detainee Saif al-Din Diyab al-Amareen (22 years old) from Beit Awa in Hebron has been on hunger strike for three days. He was detained on February 20, 2023.
- Palestinian detainee Hatem al-Qawasameh (42) has been on hunger strike for the 10th consecutive day. He is demanding to be transferred to be with his brother Hazem al-Qawasameh, who is detained in Raymond Prison.
- Palestinian detainee Maher Al-Akhras (52 years old) from Silat al-Dhahr town near Jenin, has declared his open hunger strike at the moment of his arrest early on Wednesday. He is a former prisoner who has spent around 4 years in Israeli occupation prisons, with the last time being in 2020.
